This course is for everyone who wishes to start flying cross country in gliders.

The course is somewhat unusual: Most Cross Country flying is flown on single-seat gliders while the teacher will accompany you in his own single seat glider and guide you and the other participants around the course. Depending on expectations from the participants, a two-seat glider will be hired to enable demonstration flights with experienced instructors. Each course day starts with 1 - 2 hours of theory lessons followed by flying for the rest of the day, weather permitting. In case of poor soaring weather, theory lessons will continue until 14.00 hours. You are expected to participate on your own i.e. without family because we need your full attention all day. We expect the participants to be highly motivated to learn and to develop. There is strict focus on team-flying, i.e. to help each other finish the courses, not on beating each other.

The course is built around the much appraised book "Beyond Gliding Distance" by Italian Flavio Formosa

From 2012 and on both winch launch and aerotow are available.

Teachers

We aim at having one instructor for every 3 students

Litterature.

  • Svedanor Cross Country Compilation (in Scandinavian). To be handed out at the course.
  • "Beyond Gliding Distance" by italian Flavio Formosa or its Danish translation, "Udenfor Glidestand". The students are urged to aquire and read this book before the course.

Other Aids.

To the extent where real cross-country flying is impossible we aim to visualise the concepts using the Condor Gliding Simulator. Danish Soaring Association, however, does  not possess a sufficient number of PC's and licenses to allow everyone to fly simulated. Thus, we encourage every participant to bring a PC with joystick and the Condor simulator - if possible.
